This is great and only has 2 minor flaws... August 17, 2010 MCmullatoDrummaBoy I got this in march 2010 and it has been great! I could only see a couple things that people could possibly be conserned about.
1. The Hi-hat pedal doesn't rotate and stays stationary. I don't have a problem with it but for some people it could possibly interfere with their setup and create awkward positioning. Like I said, I don't have a problem with it but in the long run it's definitely worth it for the price. 2. The only other problem is that it is designed for right-handed people. I myself am a Lefty but it works fine, it's just that the labels on the toms are facing you/floor. This could actually be a pro and not a con b/c it allows you to put your own stuff on the outside.
I recommend this product greatly (especially for 1st time drummers). The price is wonderful i mean you could sell it for more money if you really wanted to. I have looked around and it seems like a cheap lil' drum set but it's good quality. the only thing is that the cymbal a ride and i had to get a 2nd one so I could have a crash. The setup is normal, if you are a first time drummer, you may want to get someone to help you with the tuning. Overall it's definitely a perfect drum set for it's price. Hope this was helpful!!
Fantastic deal August 5, 2010 Lacy K. Bowman Bowman To start out, don't listen to these snobs, this drum set sounds great, and the contents and price make it a great bargain. This set does come with everything you need to start playing. It even includes a tool/key to tighten the tension rods (I didn't realize it was there until I was all finished). The snare comes put together, and the snares are made of steel. All and all if you tune the drums right, it will sound great. This is a full size drum set, but it come disassembled and enclosed in two medium sized boxes, so don't freak out when you receive the boxes, thinking you mistaken it for a junior size.
Now for the people snubbing this product, keep in mind that your getting a standard drum set, not just 5 drums. And if you dont like the sound of the drums, then re-tune it. If you don't like the sounds of the cymbals, then go a buy the cymbals you desire. To me the cymbals sound great, and overall the set is great.
The only bad thing about this set is the stool, its not that well made, in fact it bent on me after about 10 minutes of playing. Myself I just took chair out of the kitchen, and it work well for me.
So in conclusion, for the price it is well worth it. And the $60 shipping, That is so you can receive the drum set within 3 to 7 days. I ordered mine on Wednesday night, and it came at 12pm Tuesday.
What makes this drum set for beginners? August 5, 2010 Shalla DeGuzman (Bamberg, Germany) What makes this drum set for beginners?
(ie.What makes this drum set around $300 instead of $3,000?)
I was wondering about that question before I purchased this set. Well, the drum heads are made of some thinner looking plastic material (not the regular mylar plastic for the professional drums?).
That sort of disappointed me because I wanted to practice on drums closer to the more expensive ones we have at school.
The cymbals sounds more like tin cans than the nice vibrating crashing sound we get from the cymbals at school, but you can buy new cymbals and exchange the ones this comes with. (I wonder if I can also buy the better drum heads in the future and replace the ones this comes with)
The bass drum vibrates (again different from the more professional bass drum at school).
Anyway, that's what makes this more for beginners, it uses cheaper material than the professional one. But if you are a beginner, it's a good buy for the price. (Or you can buy an electric drum set like the Ion which you can also use for Rock Band. That one's got everything as well and you can lower the volume so neighbors don't hear you.)
Update: I'm really glad we purchased this drum set. I have been playing every day (2-3 hours per day) and it's awesome. The sound of the cymbals still bother me a little, I know I like to replace them with the nicer ones Zildjian 14-Inch ZBT Rock Hi-Hats Cymbal Pair like the ones we play at school.
The bass drum stopped vibrating and it's terrific. We're using Vic Firth Cymbal Pack w/ 10, 12, 14(2), 22, Hi-hat and Cymbals to keep the sound down and that's working well for us. Everything works, it's helping me practice, awesome for the price!
Great bargain for the money July 19, 2010 Christian Klaver (Detroit, MI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great bargain for the money!
Just started drum lessons and needed a kit to practice on. Considering a basic, entry-level kit can run $800 and up, this is a steal! I needed everything, literally everything - sticks, stands, a drum throne, and this kit had it all. The quality isn't top-notch, and you'll find yourself planning replacements for some pieces relatively shortly, but in the meantime, you're off and grooving. The drums sound great, but the cymbals are a bit tinny.
That said, there are a few things you can do to improve the poor sound quality. If you're new to drumming, you might not notice the poor sound at first, but after a few weeks of hitting it, I started to become aware of a few things.
First, I put a sock in the bell of the lower hi-hat to eliminate that irritating whiny ring that came from each hit. So terrible, but so easy to fix. Play with the sound and you'll see. Shortens the note, too, which turns out to be really wonderful.
Second - a no brainer - put some kind of muffle in the bass drum. Just about everyone does this, a pillow or blanket does the trick. This makes your bass hit shorter. (Also a smidge quieter, though that's not the goal here.) Listen to your favorite rock band, play a few notes with the muffle in, then out and you'll see the wonder and beauty that is a nice, short bass note. Unmuffled just sounds too sloppy. This is true of most bass drums, and not really a problem with this kit.
Learning how to tune the drums is a big help, too. There are many instructional videos on you tube.
You'll probably be replacing that drum throne in a few months. I'm 175 and I twisted mine into a useless twist in a month and a half.
Still, great bargain for the entry level drummer.
Great Set June 24, 2010 Stephen Buskey Bought these drums for my 7 yr old daughter to learn on and am very happy with this buy! They are a steal and are easy to put together.
